Buying vs Leasing vehicles

lease-vs-buy

When it comes to buying or leasing a car the options can be confusing. To help you make an informed decision we have provided the information below.

Buying

Who Owns It

Whether you pay for the car with cash, or finance it and make monthly payments, either way it’s yours. Of course, if you’re financing it, you’ll have to meet the obligations the lender requires, like a certain down payment amount and timely monthly payments. If you don’t, they have the right to repossess it.

Up-front Costs

If you’re financing it, the bank will probably request a down payment. You can also trade-in another vehicle and use any equity towards your down payment. The amount of the down payment is usually based on the lender’s requirements and your credit score.

Future Value

Your vehicle will be worth whatever you can sell it for in the future and that depends on how well you maintain it. (Be smart and protect your investment with regular scheduled maintenance by a factory-authorized facility!)

End of Payments

Once you’ve paid off what you owe on your contract, that’s it. Your vehicle is 100% yours. The lending institution will send you a Lien Release as proof that the vehicle is completely paid off and all yours.

Leasing

Who Owns It

You do not own the car when you lease. You’re paying for the use of the vehicle, but the finance institution that you leased it through actually owns it. This is usually why you pay less per month in a lease than if you were to buy the car. .

Up-front Costs

Leases often do not require any type of a down payment. All you usually have to pay is the first month’s payment, a security deposit, the acquisition fee and other fees and taxes. But, as with a purchase, if you want to lower your monthly payments you can always pay more upfront.

Future Value

In most leases you don’t end up owning it so you don’t end up selling it. That’s the financial institution’s job. Although you may have mileage limits and wear and tear guidelines that, if you exceed them, could cost you extra money when you turn your vehicle back in.

End of Payments

Most people return the vehicle at the end of the lease term. But some like to purchase it during their lease or at the end. Others like to trade it in before their lease is over. Just ask us about these different options before signing any paperwork and we’ll make sure you have your lease set up the way you want it.

Best Cars to Lease

The best cars to lease are those with the best book value after the term of the lease. Since they depreciate less, you pay less. Review the lease ratings to see which cars retain their value.

Do gas-saving devices really work?

image

Garage mechanics and auto enthusiasts are likely to be familiar with a certain type of advertisement. Appearing in car magazines and throughout car-focused Internet pages, these ads offer a range of products with a similar claim: that by bolting on, plugging in or pouring Product X into your vehicle, you'll experience an amazing boost in mileage efficiency.

Mileage-boosting gadgets have been around for years, and they seem to make a comeback every time gas prices spike. While the packaging may change to fit the times, one large question hangs over these products: Do any of them actually work?

The answer, all too often, is no. Many so-called fuel-saving devices are simply well-packaged hoaxes that base their claims on questionable science and offer little or no change in a vehicle's performance. In some cases, these devices can actually hurt mileage and cause engine damage.

So how can you avoid scams while getting the most out of your vehicle? A good first step is to learn the facts behind various mileage-boosting claims, to help you determine if a product you encounter is real or a fuel-saving hoax.

Mileage-boosting devices typically fall into one of three general categories: airflow manipulators, fuel-burn enhancers, and fuel or oil additives. First, we'll look at airflow manipulators.

The flow of air into your car's engine can play a big role in its efficiency. Modern cars are designed so that a precise amount of air enters the engine, is mixed with fuel vapor, and then flows into the cylinders for combustion. A number of devices on the market claim to enhance this process, often through the use of a vortex generator added to the intake. The claim behind these devices is that they'll improve the mixing of fuel and air, helping increase efficiency and horsepower.

The truth of the matter is that these devices often disrupt airflow, changing the intake conditions from what engineers intended. Modern cars' engine management computers compensate for this by adjusting fuel flow -- in some cases, by injecting more fuel than necessary to account for the altered airflow. Tests have suggested that these devices might also serve as restrictors, reducing the engine's horsepower

The Key to a Long-Lasting Vehicle

girl_checking_engine

Basic car care is the key to a long-lasting vehicle, improving its safety and dependability, says the Car Care Council.

“Neglected vehicle care almost always means much higher costs down the line in the form of more extensive repairs or lost resale value,” said Rich White, executive director, Car Care Council. “Following a routine maintenance program makes financial sense, extending useful vehicle life and helping avoid costly repairs down the road.”

The Car Care Council recommends 10 basic maintenance procedures to keep your car operating at its best for the long haul:

  1. Check all fluids, including engine oil, power steering, brake and transmission as well as windshield washer solvent and antifreeze/coolant.
  1. Check the hoses and belts to make sure they are not cracked, brittle, frayed, loose or showing signs of excessive wear.
  1. Check the battery and replace if necessary. Make sure the connection is clean, tight and corrosion-free.
  1. Check the brake system annually and have the brake linings, rotors and drums inspected at each oil change.
  1. Inspect the exhaust system for leaks, damage and broken supports or hangers if there is an unusual noise. Exhaust leaks can be dangerous and must be corrected without delay.
  1. Schedule a tune-up to help the engine deliver the best balance of power and fuel economy and produce the lowest level of emissions.
  1. Check the heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) system as proper heating and cooling performance is critical for interior comfort and for safety reasons such as defrosting.
  1. Inspect the steering and suspension system annually including shock absorbers, struts and chassis parts such as ball joints, tie rod ends and other related components.
  1. Check the tires, including tire pressure and tread. Uneven wear indicates a need for wheel alignment. Tires should also be checked for bulges and bald spots.
  1. Check the wipers and lighting so that you can see and be seen. Check that all interior and exterior lighting is working properly and replace worn wiper blades so you can see clearly when driving during precipitation.

The Car Care Council has introduced a newcustomserviceschedule. The personalized schedule and e-mail reminder service is a free resource to help motorists drive smart, save money and make informed decisions.

How to Use Jumper Cables

jumper_cables

Owning a working set of jumper cables -- and knowing how to use them -- is a must for drivers. Since using jumper cables incorrectly can be dangerous, follow every step precisely. Most jumper cables have an instruction card or label so you can make sure you're connecting them the right way.

● Find a car to serve as the boosting car.

● Park the two cars -- the dead car and the boosting car -- close to one another, making sure that they're not touching each other.

● Make sure both cars' engines are turned off, and both cars are in park.

● Clamp the red jumper cable (i.e. the positive cable) to the dead car's positive battery terminal, which is marked with a "+." Make sure that the clamp is firmly connected to the battery.

● Clamp the other end of the red jumper cable to the booster car's positive battery terminal, also marked with a "+." Make sure that the clamp is firmly connected to the battery.

● Clamp the black jumper cable (i.e. the negative cable) to the booster car's negative battery terminal, which is marked with a " - ". Make sure that the clamp is firmly connected to the battery.

● Clamp the other end of the black jumper cable to a bare, metal surface on the engine of the dead car. This can be a bolt or a screw. This provides grounding for the jump start [source: Brauer].

● Ensure that the jumper cables are not touching any engine parts.

● Start the booster car's engine and let it idle for a few minutes.

● Start the dead car's engine and let it idle for a few minutes.

● Disconnect the black jumper cable from the once-stalled engine. Then disconnect the black jumper cable from the booster car.

● Remove the red jumper cable from the booster car. Then remove the red jumper cable from the once-stalled car.

If this process doesn't work, the dead car's problem may not be with the battery. That's when it's time to call a tow truck or roadside service provider.

Jackson Browne Will Perform at the Palace Theatre on August 8th

Jackson Browne will perform at the Palace Theatre on August 8th at 7 PM.

In many ways, Jackson Browne was the quintessential sensitive Californian singer/songwriter of the early '70s. Only Joni Mitchell and James Taylor ranked alongside him in terms of influence, but neither artist tapped into the post-'60s Zeitgeist like Browne

A New Three Row Crossover?

Hyundai may be taking on the challenge of creating a large, three row crossover to meet the needs of families. This would be a slight departure from the norm, but we think it will be an excellent addition to the line.

Now that the Hyundai Veracruz crossover is scheduled for departure as the 2013 Santa Fe takes on other three-row crossovers, the Korean automaker may have set its sights on the large, premium crossover segment, a WardsAuto report says.
Hyundai Motor America CEO Jon Krafcik told WardsAuto to “stay tuned for future details on a potential premium crossover,” and called the segment “an intriguing space.”
Although Hyundai spokesman Miles Johnson tells us that he can’t comment on future product, the automaker has expanded the Santa Fe line for 2013, renaming the two-row the Santa Fe Sport and adding a third-row to the extended-wheelbase Santa Fe, so in the short-term, former Veracruz owners will be covered in the Hyundai lineup.
The three-row 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe shares its transverse, 3.3-liter V-6 engine with the front-drive Azera sedan, but the crossover gets the automaker’s new all-wheel-drive system, which can distribute torque to each individual wheel as needed to control understeer or oversteer. It also features a new Driver Selectable Steering Mode system that provides three levels of steering effort adjustment.

Hyundai: Zombie Proof

Just in case you are worried about the zombie apocalypse, Hyundai has tanked-up the 2013 Elantra Coupe to meet the hoards head on. Take a look at this monster, we think it would do the trick!

Though we’ve heard many colorful suggestions on what vehicle can survive the zombie apocalypse, we’re not convinced the 2013 Hyundai Elantra Coupe is best suited to the challenge. Even so, Hyundai has collaborated with Robert Kirkman, the creator of The Walking Dead comic book series, to design the 2013 Hyundai Elantra Coupe Zombie Survival
Machine which will be on display at Comic-Con, which runs from July 12-15 in San Diego.
Modifications to the 2013 Elantra Coupe Zombie Survival Machine include a spiked, zombie plow cow catcher up front; slatted armored window coverings; a sunroof hatch cage to safely shoot at zombies; an electric rear trunk for easy access to weapons; off-road tires; as well as a CB radio/PA system.
The Elantra Coupe Zombie Survival Machine will be on display in Future US’ booth along with a limited-run illustrated owner’s manual. As part of the connection between Hyundai and The Walking Dead, a 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT hatchback wrapped in the cover of the 100th issue will be given away July 31. Charlie Adlard, a longtime artist for the comic book, designed the Elantra GT’s custom wrap.

The Hyundai Veloster: Beauty and Power

They Hyundai Veloster Turbo is perfect for those looking for performance without having to take a huge hit in the wallet. Designed to get you where you need to go FAST, the turbo boasts a full suite of extra tech made to give you the best ride possible, while remaining a classy addition to the Hyundai lineup.
Hyundai might not be the first name you associate with pocket-rocket performance, but the 2013 Veloster Turbo hopes to change all that. Squeezing 201 horsepower at 6,000rpm out of a 1.6 liter turbocharged powerplant, the Veloster Turbo was first revealed earlier this year, and has now had a mightily impressive sub-$22k price tag attached.
The 2013 model year gets a styling refresh, with a gaping-mouth grille and more aggressive arches. Both 3- and 5-door versions of the hot hatch have been shown off, with prices starting from $21,950 for the 6-speed manual and rising to $22,950 for the 6-speed auto with paddle shift.
Both get a Gamma turbocharged engine, with a twin-scroll turbocharger that Hyundai promises is good for instantaneous power delivery and minimal turbo lag. There’s also some reasonable economy figures, too – well, reasonable for this sort of performance car, anyway – with 26 mpg city and 38 mpg highway results in the manual.

Hyundai Seeks to Create Fuel Efficiency Month

In order to take a stand against rising gas prices and to increase the benefits of fuel efficient vehicles, Hyundai is petitioning to create a Fuel Efficiency Month starting this August.. Hyundai's campaign seeks to encourage consumers to think about the benefits of fuel efficiency including saving money at the pump and decreased green-house gas emissions.
As Americans hit the road this summer, Hyundai Motor America aims to bring more attention to the environmental and economic benefits of driving more fuel efficiently, with the launch of its initiative to make August "National Fuel Efficiency Month." Hyundai plans to put a spotlight on fuel economy this summer with consumer tips and compelling content which inspire consumers to embrace more fuel-efficient driving, saving dollars and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Hyundai will petition Washington to deem August the official awareness month for fuel efficiency by encouraging fuel-conscious consumers to sign a petition at http://wh.gov/zAa .
"As America's most fuel-efficient car company, we want to inspire people and show them how fuel efficiency can help their wallets and the planet at the same time, no matter what kind of car they drive," said John Krafcik, president and CEO, Hyundai Motor America. "There's a day, week or month for just about everything else, so we feel the time is right for a national Fuel Efficiency Month to help shine a spotlight on the ecological and economic benefits here."
Fuel Efficiency Month will focus national attention on the need for everyone to take simple measures to improve fuel efficiency such as keeping tires properly inflated, making sure the vehicle is well tuned, improving driving habits and using features like cruise control. The program also includes information about making wise decisions in the vehicle purchase process. These measures will help the U.S. reduce fuel consumption and emissions from fossil fuels.

2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Named Top Hybrid

AutoPacific has awarded the 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid the top rated hybrid of the year. The awards are based on user votes, meaning that the award shows customer satisfaction based off of real experience. Come by the dealership to learn more about why the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is the top hybrid of the year!

Winners of this year’s Autobytel & AutoPacific Consumer Awards have been released and the top-rated hybrid car winner is the 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid.
This is the 16th edition of this annual Vehicle Satisfaction Awards.
Based solely on input from actual owners—more than 75,000 of them—taken during the first quarter of the year, AutoPacific’s 2012 Vehicle Satisfaction Awards (VSAs) provide a unique look at which vehicles provide the most satisfying overall ownership experience. Many other awards focus solely on specific aspects of that experience, or the subjective opinions of the media, and can’t identify the vehicles that really satisfy real drivers.
For example, when looking at the top-rated hybrid car in this year’s VSAs, the winner wasn’t the one with the absolute highest mpg ratings. Yes, the main reason people buy hybrids is to save on fuel costs, but, at this stage in the game, people expect that plus all the benefits found in a traditionally powered vehicle, too. And that’s exactly what they get in this year’s highest-rated hybrid car, the 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid.

Baboons Not A Match for the Hyundai i30

Hyundai took product testing to the next limit by releasing a pack of wild baboons onto the i30, Hyundai's toughest vehicle. With 40 baboons ripping it apart, the i30 withstood the test. Check out the video below:

In a very unusual campaign, Hyundai drove its latest i30 hatchback to Knowsley Safari Park and stopped it in the middle of the park. After that, the company loosed 40 baboons to test whether the car can really work with such hostile conditions. After leaving the car with the baboons for more than an hour, the world class auto maker drove out of the safari park and "proved" that the car indeed is monkey-proof.
“Our latest offering i30 is aimed for youngsters as well as for family members," said Felicity Wood, Hyundai Project Manager.
"We didn’t really used the campaign for a public purpose. It was the decision of the project manager of the Hyundai Motors to literally test the vehicle by 40 baboons. We couldn’t possibly do it in the middle of the city. So, we chose Knowsley Safari Park to withstand any chances to wild baboons. The video did receive rave reviews from the YouTube audience. With this attempt hope the consumer fraternity has understood the purpose behind the experiment,” Wood added.

Hyundai Awarded "Best Value"

The Hyundai Elantra and Genesis sedans have been dubbed as "Best Values" by USAA. The award is given to cars which have high quality builds, are extremely safe, have great fuel economy, and are reasonably priced.
A few years ago, Hyundais were only occasionally spotted on LA streets. In addition, they were viewed as inexpensive, low quality vehicles. Currently, their numbers are constantly on the rise. The “low quality” moniker no longer holds true; however, they continue to give the purchaser a lot of bang for the buck. The latest accolade for Hyundai came from the United Services Automobile Association (USAA), which offers financial services to those that have served in the US Military, named the Hyundai Elantra and Genesis as “Best Values.” In addition, the insurer named the Elantra as one of the 10 Best Cars for Teens. Hyundai Motor America reported the recognition on May 7, 2012.
To determine the winners, USAA rated vehicles in 16 different categories with a proprietary vehicle rating system using quantitative data, which included such factors such as cost, safety, reliability, and fuel economy. The two vehicles represent both ends of the Hyundai spectrum. The Elantra is a modestly priced sedan, slotted just above the subcompact accent. The Genesis is a full-sized luxury sedan, which is only out-luxed by the high-end Hyundai Equus. Both vehicles were chosen because they offered the best financial value in their respective segments.
In addition, the Elantra was also listed among USAA’s Top 10 for Teens list. The list was compiled from the results of a recent survey, which identified the top 10 USAA Preferred vehicles that offer reliability, a high safety rating, and affordable auto insurance. Four other Hyundai models were given USAA’s Preferred designation: Accent (small sedan), Genesis Coupe (large luxury sedan), Santa Fe (midsize SUV), and Sonata (midsize sedan).

2012 Hyundai Azera Racking Up Awards

The 2012 Hyundai Azera is passing up the competition by winning several awards and honors. So far the Azera enjoys the "Best Bet" award for its reliability, and a best interior award from Cars.com. Its no surprise that the car is racking up awards, and we are excited about seeing what else Hyundai can come up with in the future!

Many people know the name Toyota Avalon. It is fair to say that the name Chevrolet Impala also has a familiar ring. However, in the world of full-size, front-drive automobiles it is the unfamiliar, Azera, racking up the awards. Yes, Hyundai has a large, front-drive sedan bigger than the Sonata and lower in price than its rear-drive luxury car the Genesis. The Azera has been long overshadowed by the hugely successful mid-size Sonata, and its world-beating Elantra, but that may be about to change.
Safety, Fuel Efficiency, and Reliability Cars.com has just named the Azera a “Best Bet” for 2012. Patrick Olsen, the Editor In Chief at Cars.com, states that “The redesigned Hyundai Azera offers a roomy cabin, great value for the price and solid reliability…This vehicle and the others from Hyundai that we have named a ‘best bet’ are vehicles that any of our editors would drive.” Joining the Azera on the list were the Tuscon Genesis Coupe, and of course the Sonata and Elantra. Cars.com based the awards on fuel efficiency, reliability, and safety. Scott Margason, Director of Product Planning of Hyundai, was pleased with the rating saying “It’s an honor to have Cars.com editors recognize the Azera and five other Hyundai models on their list of vehicles to buy in 2012.”

The new 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coup

The new 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coup is crowd-pleaser with attitude. Not only does the base model come with the latest Hyundai technology, but it boasts better performance that competitors in its class. And with a price tag of just over $24k, we think it will soon catch on as a favorite among car enthusiasts. Come by the dealership to learn how you can get your hands on your very out Coup!
Hyundai’s new range of rear-wheel drive vehicles has proven a hit with media and consumers alike, particular due to their sharp dynamics, tasteful styling and affordable pricing.
How affordable you ask? Well the latest 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe starts at just $24,250.
While that is a significant increase over the $22,250 starting price of the 2012 model, the latest 2013 Genesis Coupe brings a lot to the table and is still quite the bargain considering the level of performance and technology you get.
Yes, the Genesis Coupe has come a long way since its launch just three years ago, with the latest model getting fresh new styling, a revamped interior, more powerful engines and a paddle-shifted eight-speed--yes, eight speeds--automatic transmission as an alternative to the standard six-speed manual. That alone makes the Genesis Coupe a standout against rivals like the Chevrolet Camaro, Dodge Challenger, Ford Mustang and even the Nissan 370Z, but there’s even more to like.

Hyundai to Roll Out Hydrogen Cars

That's right, Hyundai is taking the next step in auto-evolution and rolling out a series of hydrogen cars. Although they are starting with 1000 of them, this is an excellent step in bringing the company to the future of cars. They are planning on selling the first 1000 in late 2013, and expects to sell 10000 per year starting in 2015. What do you think of the wave of cars coming out soon?

Most major manufacturers are planning fuel cell vehicle rollouts in limited production numbers in 2015, including Toyota, Honda, and possibly General Motors. Hyundai announced last year that it would one-up those rivals by putting their fuel cell vehicle into production by 2013.
The Korean automaker plans to make good on that promise by rolling out the first thousand hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (HFCV) late this year for 2013 release. Most of these will not be put on the road in Korea or North America, but in Europe, where hydrogen has a much higher level of acceptance.
The vehicle of choice will be the Tucson ix, based on the small crossover of the same name, with a sticker price of $88,550 before incentives. Hyundai's goal is to have their fuel cell vehicles selling for under $50,000 by 2015, putting them well ahead of the curve as the only other company to announce possible pricing for their FCVs is Toyota, who plans to have theirs at that level on release (likely at an initial loss, as with the Prius in the late 1990s). Hyundai plans to be selling 10,000 units per year by 2015.

The Hyundai Sante Fe Sport

The Hyundai Sante Fe appeared at the 2012 New York Auto Show to steal the floor, as well as impress car enthusiasts for the second time. The Sante Fe Sport, a beautiful crossover, promises great gas mileage in addition to style, performance, and a unique design. What do you think so far?
Today at the 2012 New York auto show, Hyundai debuted not one, but two new versions of the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe for two different kinds of crossover buyers.
The first debut was the Santa Fe Sport, a small crossover that seats five. Under its hood, drivers have a choice between either a 190 horsepower direct-injected 2.4-liter engine that should net an estimated 33 highway mpg or the turbocharged and direct-injected 2.0-liter engine that outputs 264 horsepower at the expense of a pair of highway mpg. If these engines sound familiar, it's because they're the same that you can find powering the Hyundai Sonata. Whether this shared architecture means we'll ever see a Santa Fe Hybrid, remains to be seen.
Like the Sonata, the Santa Fe defaults to a front-wheel-drive configuration with a six-speed automatic transmission. Unlike the sedan, however, Hyundai's new crossover can be optioned with an all-wheel drive system that sends power on demand to the rear axle. Through a combination of true torque vectoring and torque braking, Hyundai claims that the Santa Fe Sport can control traction to each individual wheel without the driver ever knowing the system has intervened.

Hyundai Named Leader in Fuel Economy and CO2 Emissions in the U.S.

While gas prices are rising, it is good to know that there is a car company sensitive to keeping your money in your wallet. For the second time, Hyundai has been named the leader in fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions in the U.S.. This means that when you drive a Hyundai, you are saving money with every mile, as well as leaving a smaller environmental footprint. Enjoy the ride!
In a government-issued report today, Hyundai Motor America was named number one in fuel economy and CO2 emissions in America by topping the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) fuel economy rankings for the 2010 model year, beating out traditional leaders Honda and Toyota. No make scored higher than Hyundai. This is the second time Hyundai has led in both categories, having achieved this distinction previously for the 2008 model year.
The EPA 2011 Light-Duty Automotive Technology and Fuel Economy Trends Report identified Hyundai as the top 2010 brand with an adjusted(1) fuel economy rating of 27.0 miles per gallon. In addition to being named the most fuel efficient brand, Hyundai also had the lowest fleet-wide adjusted composite CO2 emissions performance (329 g/mi) for the 2010 model year.
The EPA 2011 Trends Report also indicates that preliminary 2011 model year values suggest that Hyundai will maintain its fuel economy leadership. Forecasts show that Hyundai will achieve an adjusted fuel economy rating of 27.5 miles per gallon in the 2011 model year.

The 2012 Hyundai Azera Tops Government Fuel Economy Ratings

If you enjoy a great ride, but are also looking for a car that has excellent gas mileage, the Hyundai Azera is the car for you. Car enthusiasts love it for its style and performance, and economic consious drivers prefer it for its price and gas mileage. The Azera tops government fuel economy ratings for non-hybrid cars with 20 miles city driving and 29 mpg on the highway. Come by to try one out!
The 2012 Hyundai Azera isn't a hybrid or a luxury-branded car. But it's tops among 2012 non-diesel, non-hybrid large sedans in government fuel economy ratings with 20 miles a gallon in city driving and 29 mpg on the highway.
The new Azera also has so many standard luxury features, including 293-horsepower V-6, light-emitting diode headlight accents, navigation system and rearview camera with large, 7-inch, in-dashboard screen display, that it might be confused with a high-tech, luxury sedan.
The roomy Azera four door now is attractively styled like the smaller and better known Hyundai Sonata mid-size sedan and has more front-seat legroom — a total of 45.5 inches — than a Cadillac Escalade or Ford Expedition.

Sneak Peek at The Hyundai Sante Fe

Hyundai has given an early sneak peek of the upcoming Santa Fe,Hyundai's third generation of crossovers. The photo reveals a lot about the design of the car, and we are very curious to see what they have hidden under the hood, and what tech will surprise us in the cab. What do you think so far?
Known by the code name DM in South Korea, the crossover will get its full unveiling at next month's New York auto show.
This much is clear: Hyundai will keep the name Santa Fe. It will be the crossover's third generation.
Says Hyundai: "The third-generation Santa Fe features sophisticated and refined lines, which are in harmony with bold and voluminous surfaces, completing a more aggressive and classic look than its predecessor. The design adopts the hexagonal grille -- a key design cue of the Hyundai family look -- a two-tone voluminous bottom car body and wider front and rear bumpers, creating a futuristic and urban-style SUV image."

Hyundai of Greensburg Aiding Hope On Wheels

Since 1998, Hyundai and its dealers have been committed to supporting the fight against childhood cancer. What began in 1998 as a local initiative supported by New England-area Hyundai dealers to raise funds for the Jimmy Fund at Boston's Dana-Farber Cancer Institute has evolved into Hyundai Hope on Wheels, an independent 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization that is now supported nationwide by Hyundai's 800+ dealers and Hyundai Motor America. Since its inception, Hyundai Hope on Wheels has donated more than $23 million to children's hospitals across the country to help kids fight cancer. Every time a new Hyundai vehicle is sold in the U.S., a donation is made to Hope on Wheels.

The Hope on Wheels Tour is the united effort of Hyundai dealers across the country to raise awareness about childhood cancer and celebrate the lives of the courageous children battling the disease. In 2010, the Hope on Wheels Tour traveled to 44 children's hospitals across the country and donated more than $2 million to support further training and research for doctors involved in childhood cancer research. Hyundai Hope on Wheels designates the medical professionals supported by these donations as Hyundai Scholars.

In 2011, Hyundai and its dealers will continue their commitment to battling childhood cancer with the “Hyundai Gives Hope on Wheels” initiative during the month of September - Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. In addition to the $2 million raised through the 2010 Hope on Wheels Tour, Hyundai Motor America and Hyundai dealers donated an additional $6.8 million to children’s hospitals and other non-profit organizations across the country through last year’s September initiative.

Hyundai's New i-onic Concept

Hyundai has uncovered their new i-onic concept car, a sleek and smooth addition to the Hyundai brand. Not only is the i-onic great on gas mileage due to its hybrid engine, but it has a unique design which promises to steal the spotlight in upcoming Auto Shows. What do you think of the design so far?

While full specs will still have to wait for a few days, the first official photo of the Hyundai i-onic Concept that debuts in Geneva clearly lives up to the promise of the original design sketch released late last year. We do know that the most dramatic embodiment yet of the firm's Fluidic Sculpture styling language features a range-extending 1.0-liter/three-cylinder gasoline engine that serves as a supplemental generator to the car's primary 108-horsepower electric motor and lithium-ion battery pack. In pure EV mode, this striking four-passenger hatch/coupe can travel up to 75 mile on a single charge but carry on for an additional 360 miles after its range-extender engine kicks in. Beyond that, we're told the Hyundai i-onic Concept boasts a roomy, high-tech cabin with a sport-focused driver area and a lounge-like flavor to the rest of the interior that features sculpted surfaces inspired by various musical instruments.

Hyundai Steps It Up for Oscar Commercials

Hyundai created a pair of commercials to run during the Oscars, and they are surprisingly well done. The car company had director Wes Anderson (creator of "The Royal Tenenbaums" and "The Life Aquatic") to create the videos, the first of which is titled "Talk to My Car," and the second "Modern Life." Take a look, what do you think of the ads?

Who would have thought even a few years ago that Hyundai would successfully market itself through TV commercials as one of the hippest car companies?
The latest example: Hyundai tapped cult-classic movie director Wes Anderson ("The Royal Tenenbaums," "The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou") to produce a pair of spots for the Azera that ran during the Academy Awards telecast.
One, titled “Talk to My Car,” focuses on Hyundai’s BlueLink system's ability to easily find an Italian restaurant when the driver asks for it. To set up the spot’s premise that it’s “always been a dream to talk to our cars,” Anderson includes references to "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang," "Knight Rider," "The Spy Who Loved Me" and "The Italian Job" – all in 30 seconds.

Driving the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe

Eager to get your hands on the new 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe? So are we. But in the meantime, we've learned about some first hand impressions with it. Car enthusiasts love it for its updated/upgraded engine, style and design, and of course for its price. While starting at just $25,125 for the basic package, the Genesis Coupe promises to be a game changer in the new car market. Check out this review by Automobile Magazine about the impressive features on this new Hyundai.

When we drove the Genesis coupe in mid-2009 at a media preview, we were pretty impressed with Hyundai’s efforts. After thrashing both turbo four-cylinder and naturally aspirated V-6 models around a racetrack, we concluded: “Regardless of which flavor you choose or modifications you install, there's plenty about the Genesis coupe to like. It's an affordable, attractive sports coupe, with the unique appeal of rear-wheel drive.” In subsequent drives of the Genesis coupe at our editorial office, Automobile Magazine editors found plenty to like but also lots to gripe about. Generally speaking, we concluded that ride comfort (especially in models with the optional track package), interior trim quality, overall refinement, and the power delivery and NVH characteristics of the 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder, in particular, were lacking. So, although we loved the idea of the Genesis coupe---a rear-wheel-drive sporty car for the common man, an all-too-rare commodity---we thought the common man deserved more. “Here’s one Hyundai that needs some more polishing,” was a typical comment from our 2009 reviews.

Another Rave Review for the Veloster

The 2012 Hyundai Veloster is an extremely affordable and stylish car for any car enthusiast. With 40mpg highway and 28 city, it is also a bank saver. The Veloster starts at $23,990, and as such is a great deal for anyone looking for unique style, a slim appearance, and a gas-friendly car.

The Veloster also comes with a few modern additions including a high-end audio system, an iPhone charger, a USB input, and much more. With a five-star safety rating, the Veloster is a good choice for any driver

Overall we found Hyundai’s Veloster a surprisingly good package, given the price. The extensive list of standard features puts some European luxury cars to shame, but as good as the additional kit in the Veloster+ is, the base model with DCT ($25,990) is the one we’d recommend.
There’s a reason Hyundai is the fastest growing car company in the world, it’s giving the market what it wants at a very reasonable price. We simply cannot wait for the Veloster turbo. Click on the gallery tab for more pictures.
Hyundai Veloster Pricing:
  • Veloster Manual – $23,990
  • Veloster DCT – $25,990
  • Veloster+ Manual – $27,990
  • Veloster+ DCT – $29,990

Hyundai At the 2012 Auto Expo

Hyundai had a great presence at an international auto show where they embodied their new slogan "New thinking, new possibilities." Attendees were privy to see the Hyundai Eon, the new Sonata, and the Veloster coupe. In addition, the Hyundai stand gave a glimpse of the Hexa Space concept MVP, one of the most important concept cars to be seen at the expo. We're excited to see what else Hyundai can bring for next years expo!
The entire stand was spread across a large area and divided into various zones. One of the key ones was the digital zone where visitors could use social media to express their opinion. Hyundai took the opportunity and helped the visitors update their Facebook status and even emailed pictures of them posing with their favourite Hyundai.
Almost 80 truckloads of material, two months of planning and one week of sleepless nights went into making the Hyundai stand the exciting affair that it turned out to be. And in one of the rare instances I actually heard people talking more about the Hyundai cars than the women. A job well done indeed!

2013 Hyundai Elantra Coupe Sneak Peek

With the help of a photographer/sleuth, we're able to take a look at the upcoming Elantra Coupe, which was to have its first appearance in the upcoming 2012 Chicago Auto Show.Hyundai is hoping it will make up 20% of yearly sales, so we'll have to see what's under the hood in a few weeks to gauge how well it will do in the market.
"Here it is, ladies and gents – the 2013 Hyundai Elantra Coupe. The svelte new two-door will make its official debut at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show in just a few weeks, but our intrepid spy photographers managed to catch this completely uncovered prototype on the back of a flatbed truck. Not surprisingly, the new coupe relies heavily on the same Fluidic Sculpture design language of the award-winning sedan, though subtle tweaks have been made to give the two-door a bit more sporting flare. The foglight housings appear larger and more angular, giving the front end a slightly more.."

Hyundai Named #1 In Customer Retention

According to the J.D. Power and Associates 2012 Customer Retention Study, Hyundai was named the best auto brand for customer retention. This means that customers who buy a Hyundai, stay with Hyundai:

"Hyundai is highest among all automotive brands in J.D. Power and Associates 2012 Customer Retention Study(SM). Now in its ninth year, the study measures the rate at which automotive brands retain their existing customers and examines the reasons why customers remain loyal. Hyundai earned the top spot in the study, improving its retention rate by four percentage points from 2010 to 64 percent in 2012.

According to J.D. Power and Associates, Hyundai's increased retention rate is shaped by its expanding model lineup, as well as the fact that perceptions of the brand's quality and appeal have continued to improve during the past decade.

The 2012 Customer Retention Study is based on responses from 117,001 new-vehicle buyers and lessees, of which 73,733 replaced a vehicle that was previously acquired new. In addition to customer retention, the study also measures the rate at which each automotive brand captures customers from its competitors, known as conquesting.

“We are proud that Hyundai owners show their brand loyalty by choosing to buy another Hyundai vehicle over 60 percent of the time,” said Dave Zuchowski, executive vice president, National Sales, Hyundai Motor America. 'Once they experience the styling, comfort and value of Hyundai vehicles, it’s no surprise that they elect to stick with the Hyundai brand. We are thrilled that our vehicles and our dealers are earning the respect and loyalty of our customers.'"

Hyundai Elantra Named “Car of the Year” at the 2012 North American International Auto Show!

The Hyundai Elantra was named “Car of the Year” at the 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit!

The Elantra beat out the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Passat as finalists for the car of the year. The Evoque beat out the BMW X3 and the Honda CR-V. The finalists were named last month.

John Krafcik, president and CEO of Hyundai North America, said Hyundai has sold more than 200,000 Elantras since the new model was introduced. Krafcik said the award will help to cement Hyundai's reputation for quality and improvement the company has made since it entered North America 1986.

The Elantra, which was designed at Hyundai's California studio, is a compact car that gets 40 miles per gallon on the highway.

"It's an amazingly competitive segment. To have this honor feels really good," Krafcik said.

Andy Goss, president of Jaguar and Land Rover North America, said the Evoque symbolizes the changes that SUVs and crossovers are going through in the automotive industry as manufacturers adapt to more stringent fuel economy standards.

"I think it will come as a surprise to some that the North American Truck of the Year is a highly capable, luxury four-cylinder SUV that achieves 28 miles per gallon," on the highway, Goss said.

The North American Car and Truck of the Year awards are different from other industry awards because they are given by a jury of 50 veteran automotive journalists from Canada and the U.S.

Most other automotive awards, in contrast, are given out by individual publications or organizations. Before today's awards were announced domestic automakers had won 10North American Car of the Year awards, European automakers had won four and Japanese automakers have won three. Hyundai won one time prior to today.

Hyundai Snags One of the Best

In December, BMW Blog gave Hyundai a some great PR. Check it out!

We recently ran a news piece that covered the breaking headline that Chris Chapman has left BMW to work for Hyundai. This news clipping is important enough to mull over for a second time.

I’ve long said that if I didn’t own a BMW, I’d own a Hyundai. Sounds crazy, doesn’t it? It would have been crazy to make such a statement 10 years ago, but in 2012 Hyundai is looking good. I should elaborate on that statement by adding that if I gave up driving a BMW and was no longer interested in performance driving, track days and drifting, I would own a Hyundai. Basically, removing performance from the performance driving equation leaves you with simple driving, and that is an area where Hyundai is awfully good at providing maximum value.

Hyundai now represents the reliable, good value option that the Japanese once represented with their late 80s, 90′s and early new-millennium offerings. Unfortunately, Toyota lost their way in a large way, not only losing their enviable reliability record (note the 14 million recalls since winter 2009) but also losing their honest design philosophy, and sporting edge of the past. To be fair, Toyota does have the FT-86 on the way – a brilliant new sports car for all that should right a few wrongs, but a single candle can’t light a factory. Honda has also lost their way, never putting a foot wrong in the area of reliability, but totally losing inspiration in design. Have you seen a recent Honda that excited you or made you want a test drive? The last car to get our juices flowing was the S2000, which has been discontinued. Honda’s Acura division also shut down production of the venerable if slightly underpowered NSX, leaving a bunch of out-dated mutts to tow the line of mediocrity. How sad.

Hyundai on the other hand has been reaching for new heights without so much as a glance down at the competition from Japan. Their market share has been growing – doubling actually – over the last few years and they now find themselves sitting at around 5% of the US market share. That might not sound like much, but given their trajectory of sales growth, Hyundai are en route to make the big players nervous.

What should make the competition even more nervous is the fact that with Hyundai’s growth, they are attracting top designers such as Chris Chapman. Chris has been in the industry for 22 years and after leaving BMW, now stands to lead Hyundai’s design center in Irvine, California to bold new heights.

Cars such as Hyundai’s new Veloster are sure to make a huge dent in the market. We’re looking forward to seeing where Chris leads the South Korean company.
