Happy Memorial Day!

How are you planning to celebrate/ honor Memorial Day weekend?  Is the holiday a chance to barbeque and hang with friends, or is it a more solemn occasion as you remember a loved one?  Share with us!

But no matter how you choose to spend your weekend, we want you to stay safe.  Here are some tips for grill safety this weekend:

• Keep food covered or refrigerated until ready to be cooked.  Cook meat to 170 degrees Farenheit as a minimum. 
• Cooking (by any method) of meats (particularly red meat and chicken) at very high temperatures until surface charring occurs can cause cancer causing substances (Heterocyclic Amines (HCA)) to form.   To avoid this, use marinades and turn frequently.
• Inspect your grill before you ignite to ensure everything is in working order.
• Don't use a grill indoors including garages, overhangs and canopies.
• When using a grill, you should use a 10-foot perimeter from anything combustible, including your house.
• Do not allow children and pets to play near a grill.
• Only use approved ignition fluids – don't use gasoline to ignite a grill.
• Keep a fire extinguisher, garden hose or bucket of sand nearby to douse a grill fire.

Consumer Reports Names Hyundai Elantra Top Pick In “Small Car” category

Consumer Reports names Hyundai Elantra Top Pick in “Small car” category.

The 2011 Elantra picks up where the previous model left off, as the past-generation Elantra had won this segment for the past three years. Today, “with its makeover, this well-rounded sedan is now more stylish and engaging to drive,” according to CR, with a decent ride, smooth and responsive powertrain, well-finished interior, relatively roomy rear seat and strong fuel-economy marks; in fact, all current models of the Elantra—regardless of transmission—are capable of EPA ratings of 29 mpg city/40 mpg highway.

This kind of overall performance also resulted in the Elantra, as well as the Elantra Touring, earning places on CR’s list of “Best vehicles under $20,000.”

At the other end of the spectrum was the luxurious Hyundai Genesis. The premium sedan joined rivals from the likes of Porsche, Lexus, Infiniti and BMW among vehicles with the highest overall CR road-test scores, finishing in a dead heat with the Corvette Z06. A significant factor in this outcome: The Genesis also had the shortest 60-0 braking distance of any “Upscale/luxury cars” tested by the publication for this model year. More braking news: The Hyundai Tucson was the shortest stopper among the “Small SUVs.”

And the completely redesigned 2011 Hyundai Azera took home CR honors, too. It was chosen by the publication as one of its Top Picks for “Best visibility.”

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Names 2011 Hyundai Equus ‘Top Safety Pick’

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety names the 2011 Hyundai Equus its ‘Top Safety Pick.’

The Equus won the award by scoring a "Good" in front, side, rollover and rear crash protection. The Equus also manged to surpass the stringent IIHS requirement for roof strength, as the big sedan was found to have a roof that can support a force equal to 4.87 times its weight. To receive a "Good" score, a roof must be able to support at least four times its weight. The Equus also features electronic stability control; another must-have to receive a Top Safety Pick designation.

Customer Loyalty Engagement Index Ranks Hyundai Number One

Customer Loyalty Engagement Index ranks Hyundai number one in customer loyalty for the second year in a row. 

“Hyundai is completely committed to our customers with Hyundai Assurance, the industry’s most comprehensive consumer protection plan,” according to Trea Reedy, national manager, Dealer Marketing and Resource Management, Hyundai Motor America.

“Hyundai has been able to best meet customer expectations and has, again, scored the highest levels of loyalty when it comes to the Automotive category, taking the #1 spot in our Customer Loyalty Engagement Index,” said Robert Passikoff, Brand Keys founder and president. “Of course, the true test of loyalty and engagement always shows up in the marketplace, so we weren’t surprised to see their sales are up again over last year.”

And as noted by Reedy, “With our strong new lineup filled with stylish, fuel efficient and affordable vehicles, both new and returning customers are keeping Hyundai at the top of their shopping lists.”

Hyundai Sonata Honored As 2011 International Car Of The Year

Consider it another major coup for the all-new Hyundai Sonata: A jury of 12 renowned automotive journalists recently chose the Sonata as the 2011 International Car of the Year, honoring the sophisticated sedan as “the most emotionally compelling” vehicle of the new model year. The award, now in its 15th year, was given out during the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

It was an impressive recognition for a car that was Hyundai’s best seller in 2010, attracting 196,623 customers, including 35 percent more retail buyers than in the previous year.
